
The mission of the center is to foster collaboration in research, training and service in the field of international health between and among the four constituent UTMB schools and foreign institutions.
Goals of the Center include:
- To provide opportunities to help medical professionals develop competencies needed to work in a global environment, develop a sense of global responsibility and work toward the goals of the “Health for All initiatives of the World Health Organization.
- To increase competency and interest of students in working with minority and under-served populations, both in the US and abroad.
- To increase student interest in Primary Care, Community Medicine, and Public and Population Health.
- To increase UTMB’s awareness and active involvement in global health issues.
- To promote new research addressing global health issues, in collaboration with researchers in developing countries, and assisting with the dissemination of research findings as well as successful implementation of those findings around the globe.
- To assist in the training of health care providers from other countries to help them meet their human resource development needs for improving health care around the globe.
